The Judicial Academy, in cooperation withAcademy of European Law (ERA) andBar Association of Serbia, on November 5 in Belgrade, organized a one-day seminar on the topic "The right of asylum in the European Union". The seminar brought together 18 participants: judicial assistants, lawyers and students of the Judicial Academy.

The seminar was opened by the deputy director of the Judicial Academy, Maja Prelić Simović, and lawyer Anna Kanellopoulou from the Academy of European Law. They stated that the aim of the seminar is to provide an overview of the development of legislation and judicial practice in European asylum law. Key issues related to the Common European Asylum System will also be discussed. A special focus will be placed on recent ECtHR and CJEU jurisprudence dealing with asylum issues.

The focus of the Judicial Academy during 2023 and 2024 was to improve the curriculum and increase the scope of training in the field of European Union law. The report of the European Commission for the year 2024 confirms that we are on the right track and that the effort we have made has been recognized by the European Union, bearing in mind that this request, which appeared year after year in the reports of the European Commission, was not mentioned in the new report , which means that it has been assessed that the Judicial Academy, in cooperation with its partners, among which the Academy for European Law (ERA) stands out, is successfully working on its fulfillment.

The key topics covered at the seminar were:
•    Main features of the Asylum Procedure Directive and the upcoming Asylum Procedure Regulation
•    Legal framework of the EU Asylum Policy
•    Key national provisions in the area of asylum: focus on the asylum procedure
•    Key national judgments in the field of asylum
