The main role of the mentor is to facilitate the professional development of the users of the initial training through the development of competencies necessary for the future role of a judge or prosecutor through practical training at the workplace.

Some of the basic duties of a mentor are: 

• providing information on judging, professional culture and ethics, to share their knowledge on how to achieve appropriate efficiency in work. 
• listening to participants, asking questions and gathering information about their competencies.
• supporting the process of acquiring knowledge and developing competencies 
• encouraging students to take responsibility for their training
• monitoring the students' work on a daily basis
• providing the trainee with feedback based on the competence framework and, if necessary, correcting behavior. 
• compiling a report on the evaluation of the work of the trainees

The criteria (conditions) for the appointment and selection of mentors are made by the Program Council of the Judicial Academy.
