Presentation of the manual "Procedure in cases of femicide"
Representatives of the AIRE Center, in cooperation with the Judicial Academy of the Republic of Serbia and with the support of the Government of the United Kingdom, on September 9, 2024, in the premises of the High Court in Novi Pazar, presented the manual for the judiciary "Procedure in cases of femicide".
The manual was presented to the judges of the High Court in Novi Pazar, the Basic Court in Novi Pazar, the Basic Court in Sjenica, and the prosecutors of the High Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Pazar and the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Pazar.
Slađana Čolović, v.f. President of the High Court in Novi Pazar, in her opening address she pointed out the importance of improving and harmonizing judicial practice in dealing with cases of gender-based violence and femicide, explaining that only a strong and united response of the judiciary can send the most important message - that any form of violence is unacceptable.
Mirjana Lazarova Trajkovska, judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of North Macedonia and a former judge of the European Court of Human Rights, spoke as part of the event on the topic of femicide, gender equality in the practice of the European Court of Human Rights, and best practices in the qualification of acts, aggravating and mitigating circumstances. and Ivana Milovanović, judge of the High Court in Niš and member of the Network of Judges Dedicated to Strengthening Gender Equality.
The regional report "Judicial response to femicide in the Western Balkans - legal framework and judicial practice" was also presented, which is the result of a three-year study of femicide in the region. The report provides recommendations for improving the prosecution and suppression of femicide in the region.
