Prevention and suppression of human trafficking for the purpose of labor exploitation and forced labor

As part of the project: "Preventing impunity for traffickers and supporting victims of human trafficking in Southeast Europe" funded by the Office of the United States Government to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in cooperation with the Judicial Academy of the Republic of Serbia organized the training: "Prevention and suppression of human trafficking for the purpose of labor exploitation and forced labor - multisectoral approach", in the period from July 4 to 6, 2023 in Vrdnik, i.e. from November 28 to 30, 2023. in Vrnjačka Banja. 


The aim of the aforementioned workshops was to strengthen the capacity of representatives of the police, prosecution and courts in opposing human trafficking for the purpose of labor exploitation and forced labor, while relying on the results of the activities undertaken by representatives of other state bodies, primarily the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans Affairs and social issues (Labor Inspectorate, Center for the Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking), as well as relevant international organizations and specialized civil society organizations.


As a continuation of the mentioned trainings, on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, an online meeting was held through the "ZOOM" platform with the aim of exchanging information on the results achieved in the meantime, i.e. continuing the discussion on experiences in the criminal law response against human trafficking. The meeting included the participation of representatives of the courts, the public prosecutor's office, the police and the support and protection sector that were included in the previously held trainings.


The objectives of the meeting include the following: 
    - Facilitating discussion on training effectiveness and operational results; 
    - Enabling the exchange of knowledge, experiences and innovative approaches in the fight against human trafficking at the national, regional and international level; 
    - Facilitating discussion of key current trends related to the issue of human trafficking; 
    - Promoting partnership and encouraging cooperation among all relevant actors.

-    Milan Žarković, full professor at the Criminalistics and Police University
