Ten legal teams from all Balkan countries and Turkey participated.

Jelena, Gala and Luka make up the three-member team of the Judicial Academy from Nis, which won the competition in North Macedonia. They had the task of presenting one of the judgmentsof the European Court in Strasbourg against our country.

They chose the verdict in the case of the missing babies from the maternity hospital.

Jelena Mihajlović: "Our focus was the execution of that verdict, which is still ongoing, since the European Court ordered the state to pass a special law, with the aim of establishing all the facts about the status of newborn children who are suspected of having disappeared from the maternity hospital in to Serbia."

Jelena Mihajlović, member of the winning team of the Judicial Academy

The case is presented in English, and the Niš team, whose mentor was High Court judge Ljiljana Marjanović Andrić, was very persuasive.

Gala Bogosavljevič: "At the competition, legal argumentation was evaluated above all, the way each team presented a specific case, the logical sequence of how each judgment of the European Court of Human Rights was presented, its execution, but also the presentation."

Gala Bogosavljević

For future judges and public prosecutors, these competitions are important, because they get to know European practice more closely.

Luka Anđelković: "And they are important, of course, because they allow us to connect with colleagues from the region, to exchange our experiences, to discuss the similarities and differences between our legal systems."
This team already three years ago in Lisbon was the best in knowledge and application of European Union law andEuropean Convention on Human Rights of the Council of Europe.
