Nenad Vujić is a guest of the EuroNews editorial office - an article about the International Human Rights Day
The director of the Judicial Academy, Nenad Vujić, was a guest of the EuroNews editorial office on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day. In the conversation, he emphasized the importance of protecting basic rights, especially of vulnerable groups such as women and children, and referred to the challenges that societies around the world still face in this area.
"Basic human rights, such as the right to life, dignity and protection from inhumane treatment, are not guaranteed to everyone, which is a big challenge for all of us," said Vujić, emphasizing that the rights of women and children are often violated, although they should be the foundation of every just society.
Speaking about statistics, Vujić highlighted the worrying fact that 17 women have been killed in Serbia since the beginning of the year, eight of whom reported violence. "This shows that the system must continue to improve, but also that each of us must contribute in the fight against violence," he said.
Vujić also underlined the importance of education in the justice system, especially in recognizing psychological violence and supporting victims. "The system must be faster, more efficient and more educated, and victims must have confidence that they will receive the protection they deserve," he added.
Special attention was paid to the positive opinion of the Venice Commission on the bill that defines the role of the Judicial Academy as a gateway to the judicial system. Mr. Vujić explained that future reforms will enable customized training for all candidates, with a focus on human rights, domestic violence and other specific areas.
He concluded that this date is an opportunity to reflect on the achievements, but also on the challenges ahead. "We have to worry about human rights every day, not just once a year," said Vujić.
