In the organization of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), on March 23, 2023, in the Belgrade hotel "Metropol", the "Hermes" project was presented - the Global Program for Firearms, the aim of which is to support the countries of the Western Balkans in strengthening their response to the illegal trade in firearms and the achievement of the goals established in the Road Map for a sustainable solution to the illegal possession, abuse and trade in small and light weapons and related ammunition.

The overall goal of the project is to improve the capacity to prevent and suppress illegal trade in firearms, their parts and ammunition through parcel shipments. The specific goal is to improve the regulatory framework - Standard Operating Procedures and Memorandum of Understanding for combating illegal trade in firearms, their parts and ammunition through parcel shipments and strengthening the capacity of the Customs Administration of the Republic of Serbia in detecting illegal trade in firearms, their parts, ammunition and explosives.
