The role of judges in properly assessing the reliability of forensic evidence
As part of the project "Building the capacity of actors of the criminal justice system to improve the implementation of legislation", which the Judicial Academy is implementing in cooperation with the OSCE Mission to Serbia, a workshop on the role of judges in the proper assessment of the reliability of forensic evidence was held in the hall of the Court of Appeal in Novi Sad on December 5, 2025.
The content of the workshop is based on the need for judges to better understand the latest developments in forensic science, in order to improve their professional knowledge and ability to more reliably assess the weight of forensic evidence, as well as the legality of the way they were collected from the crime scene.
The lecturers were:
• Nataša Radosavljević-Stevanović, Ph.D., Head of the Department for Physical-Chemical and Toxicological Expertise of the National Center for Criminal Forensics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia;
• Nenad Aranitović, Head of the Department for Operational Forensics, Quality Control and Improvement of Forensic Expertise and Analysis of the National Center for Criminal Forensics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia;
• Jelena Stošić, Head of the Department for DNA Expertise and Management of the National DNA Registry of the National Center for Criminal Forensics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia.
