The Judicial Academy, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Serbia, and as part of the "16 days of activism against violence against women", held a training entitled "Understanding and preventing gender-based violence - the responsibility of the system and the individual". The training was held on December 4, 2025, in the ceremonial hall of the Ministry of Finance in Belgrade.

The training was attended by prosecutor trainees from the First, Second and Third Basic Public Prosecutor's Offices and basic public prosecutor's offices in Obrenovac, Lazarevac and Mladenovac, then judicial trainees from the First, Second and Third Basic Courts and basic courts from Obrenovac, Lazarevac and Mladenovac, as well as employees of social work centers from most municipalities on the territory of the City of Belgrade.

The aim of the training was to, through a unique combination of theoretical and practical approach, provide the participants with knowledge, skills and ethical guidelines for recognizing, understanding and responding adequately in cases of gender-based violence.

The target group for this training was young experts who see themselves in the future as part of that change - to use their knowledge, ethics and empathy to build a society in which violence is not acceptable in any form.

The participants got acquainted with the concept and forms of gender-based violence, its causes, mechanisms and consequences, as well as with the legal and institutional framework for the protection of victims. Special emphasis is placed on understanding stereotypes and prejudices that affect professional behavior, on the importance of multisectoral cooperation, as well as on ethical standards and professional boundaries in working with victims of violence.

The seminar, through interactive methods - mini case studies and reflective discussions - enabled the participants to develop empathy, but also professional resilience, recognize secondary victimization and learn how to preserve personal integrity when working with traumatic content.

The lecturers at this training were:
• Sandra Perić, director of the Chamber of Social Protection; and
• Gorjana Mirčić Čaluković, public prosecutor and lecturer at the Judicial Academy.
