The Judicial Academy, in cooperation withEuropean Judicial Training Network (EJTN) as part of the "Western Balkans II" project, on March 25 and 26 in Belgrade, organized training for lecturers and experts on the topic: "Civil law of the European Union in the context of the legal system of the Republic of Serbia". 

The training for lecturers and experts in the subject area brought together 21 participants, members of the National Network of Judges and Prosecutors for the Implementation of the European Court of Human Rights Standards in the Republic of Serbia, as well as judges and public prosecutors from the area of ​​all four appeals. 

The training for lecturers and experts in the subject area was opened by the deputy director of the Judicial Academy, Maja Prelić Simović, the representative of the European Union delegation in the Republic of Serbia, Mikaela Gronqvist, and the manager of the "Western Balkans II" project of the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN), Vanja Tekić. 


The key topics covered at the training for lecturers and experts in the subject area were: 

  • The status of compliance of the legal system of the Republic of Serbia with the law of the European Union
  • Fundamentals of European Union law
  • Civil procedural law of the European Union
  • European Payment Order (case study)
  • European Small Claims Procedure (case study)
  • Inheritance law in the European Union
  • Jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the European Union on inheritance proceedings (case study)
  • Non-contractual obligations in the European Union
  • Jurisprudence of the EC Court in specific types of cross-border cases (traffic accidents) - (case study)
  • Family law of the European Union
  • Property in mixed marriages and civil partnerships with an international element (case study)


The lecturers at the training for lecturers and experts in the subject area were:

  • Matej Čujovič, judge of the Supreme Court of Slovenia, lecturer at the Judicial Academy of Slovenia
  • Nebojša Đuričić, judge of the High Court in Belgrade, lecturer at the Judicial Academy of the Republic of Serbia
  • Biljana Lepotić, judge of the High Court in Novi Sad, lecturer at the Judicial Academy of the Republic of Serbia
  • Stylianos Bios, judge of the Basic Court in Athens, lecturer at the Judicial Academy of Greece

Create the prerequisites for the development of professionalism in holders of judiciary office by establishing clear, measurable and objective criteria for the election and career advancement and their training and professional development, in line with core values and principles the judiciary system is founded on.

Goal

Develop and conduct training programmes for holders of judiciary offices and other staff in the judiciary system, aimed at acquiring new knowledge and its promotion, development of special abilities and skills, to contribute to strengthening of professional and accountable judiciary system.
