In cooperation with the OSCE, the Judicial Academy in Serbia in Serbia is implementing a project on the topic: "Improving environmental justice through capacity building, case processing and specialization of courts and prosecutors' offices." 

One of the first activities of the project was the realization of three-day training-workshops For initial training users on the topic: "Basic training - environmental law", on 17, 18. and 19. September in the Sali of the Judicial Academy. 

The training program was as follows:

First day - general part 
•    Introductory and basic environmental issues, basic principles of environmental protection, protection of some parts of the environment in the legal order of Serbia, Lecturer: prof. Dr. Mirjana Drenovak-Ivanović, Faculty of Law, University of Belgrade.

Second day - a special part 
•    Presentation of the proposal of the Law on Responsibility for Environment, Ecological Crime and Ecological Forensics in RS, the importance of the Aarhus Covenance and the role of the Special Rapporteur for Human Rights and the Environment, Lecturer: Tina Janjatović, representative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection;
•    Civic and legal protection of the environment in Belgrade, a significant step forward in judicial protection of people and healthy environment, active legitimacy of NGOs, evidence, costs of proceedings), lecturer: Nebojsa Đuričić, Judge of the Senior Court in Belgrade;     
•    Criminal environmental protection, criminal offenses of environment (material and procedural aspect) and resolving case study, lecturer: Judge Siniša Vazić.   

Third Day - Special part 
•    The role of the prosecutor in the environmental protection system (presentation of legislation in terms of waste management, presentation of all actions needed for this type of investigation and coordination with the necessary institutions, presenting a hazardous waste case as and providing professional information to media related to environmental cases), lecturer: Danijela Sinđelić, Main Public Prosecutor, OJT in Obrenovac;
•    Misdemeanor environmental protection (criminal policy of misdemeanor courts, consideration of specialization for judges Misdemeanor courts in terms of environmental objects, nature protection and protection and sustainable use of fish fund), Lecturer: Judge Mirjana Tukak.

Develop and conduct training programmes for holders of judiciary offices and other staff in the judiciary system, aimed at acquiring new knowledge and its promotion, development of special abilities and skills, to contribute to strengthening of professional and accountable judiciary system.
