Forensic expertise in the service of presenting evidence
As part of the Project "Building the capacity of actors of the criminal justice system to improve the implementation of legislation" which the Judicial Academy is implementing in cooperation withOSCE mission in Serbia, on Friday, May 16, 2025, in the auditoriumCourt of Appeal in Nis, the seminar "Forensic expertise in the service of evidence" was organized. This seminar was attended by judges and assistant judges from the territory of the Niš appeal who act in this area.
The emphasis of this training model is focused on the need for judges to better understand the latest developments in the field of forensic science, which would improve their knowledge and enable a better assessment of the reliability and weight of forensic evidence as well as the legality of the way it was collected from the crime scene.
The following topics were discussed at this seminar:
- Presentation of a case study, indictment model and material evidence;
- Traces and their evidentiary potential in the field of DNA expertise;
- Traces and their evidentiary potential in the field of physico-chemical expertise;
- Traces and their evidentiary potential in the field of trasological and ballistic expertise;
- Interpretation of expert results in the context of the case and drawing conclusions;
- Toxicological expertise.
